[東宝DVD名作セレクション] 枯れ残る晩菊にも似て四人の女が辿りゆく哀歓の人生旅路・・・ ――元芸者のきんの楽しみは金を貯めること。昔の仲間で近所に住んでいる、たまえ、のぶにも金を貸していた。のぶがやっている飲み屋に、昔無理心中を図った関が会いに来たと聞かされても、きんの心は動かなかったが・・・。杉村春子との上原謙の17年ぶりの共演は本作そのままで、現場では「お互い晩菊ですな」と昔話に花を咲かせたとか。たそがれを迎えた女たちの心を柔らかいタッチで描いた、女性映画の秀作。
