After losing to the overwhelmingly strong and talented Riku of his generation, Eiichi gives up his professional career and enrolls in college to return to being a normal student, but then he happens to encounter computer Shogi. He suddenly encounters computer Shogi, which is both original and strong. Eiichi is so fascinated by the programming that allows him to play his ideal game of Shogi that he immediately knocks on the door of the Artificial Intelligence Research Association and learns from the eccentric senior student, Isono. He wants to make the software he created stronger. Eiichi finds a new goal other than Shogi for the first time and gets absorbed in program development. A few years later, Eiichi named the program he created AWAKE and won a computer Shogi tournament, and was asked to compete in the Den-Oh Tournament against professionals...
