庵野秀明が脚本・編集・総監督、樋口真嗣が監督・特技監督を務め、2016年に公開され興行収入82億円超の大ヒットを記録。さらには第40回日本アカデミー賞で作品賞含む7冠を受賞した巨編『シン・ゴジラ』のモノクロ映像版となる『シン・ゴジラ: オルソ』、待望のBlu-ray発売!! 本作は2023年10月27日(金)に実施した第4回「『ゴジラ-1.0』公開記念 山崎貴セレクション ゴジラ上映会」にて初めて上映された。本上映会のゲスト登壇のオファーを受けた庵野秀明総監督が企画を提案し、樋口真嗣監督、尾上克郎准監督が監修を務めることで製作が実現した。※「オルソクロマチック」とは、モノクロフィルムの一つで、赤系統の色が感光されない特色を持つ「オルソクロマチックフィルム」のこと。略称で「オルソ」とも呼ばれます。現在主に流通しているモノクロフィルム「パンクロマチックフィルム」よりもフェイストーンが重くなることが特徴で、この質感を目指し、タイトルにも取り入れました。映画館にて期間限定で上映された本作が遂に円盤化! 収録される映像特典には、オリジナル本編からどのようにして「オルソ (オルソクロマチックフィルム)」を意識したモノクロ版を制作したのかの工程を解説する映像が収められている。さらに、本作が制作される理由となった『ゴジラ-1.0』の山崎貴監督と庵野総監督が対談したトークショーの模様も『ゴジラ-1.0』Blu-ray・DVDに収録されている特典映像のみならず本商品にも収録!その他、「シン・ゴジラ」劇場公開時の予告映像をオルソ版 (モノクロ版) にした映像など秘蔵映像が収められた貴重な映像特典は見逃せない!!
