グラミー生涯功労賞、ロックの殿堂入り、カナダ勲章の最高位であるコンパニオン認定され、2011年にはアストゥリアス皇太子賞の文学部門を受賞と数々の名誉に輝いているカナダ出身のシンガー・ソングライター、詩人、小説家であるレナード・コーエン。その不変の価値を持つ詞や音楽などで、三世代にも渡って世界中の人々に影響を与え続けていた稀有なアーティストだったが、2016年『ユー・ウォント・イット・ダーカー』を発表後の11月に急逝。享年82歳だった。前作の『ユー・ウォント・イット・ダーカー』以来、約3年振りとなる今作はアウトテイク等をまとめたものではなく、新曲が並ぶ通算15枚目のオリジナル・アルバム。プロデューサーは息子のアダム・コーエン。深遠な意味を持つ歌詞とシンプルで美しいメロディをあわせ持つ彼の作品はこれまで同様、世代、国境、ジャンルを超え、世界中の音楽ファンから絶大な支持を得るだろう。
