戦後、消えかけていた上方落語の灯を守り続けてきた「四天王」(笑福亭松鶴、桂米朝、桂春團治、桂文枝)。彼らの悲願は「定席(常打ち寄席)の復活」であった。その想いを受け継いだ桂三枝は、第六代上方落語協会会長に就任するや「定席実現」に向け、奔走する。そして、数々の困難を乗り越え、平成18年9月15日、「天満天神繁昌亭」はついに開席。3周年を迎えた今も連日、大賑わいをみせている。シカゴ赴任時代に落語家・桂三枝と出会い、繁昌亭の構想時からこのプロジェクトを知る著者が、「奇跡の寄席」の物語を書き下ろした。
