2015(平成27)年9月9日成立、9月16日公布、2017(平成29)年9月15日施行の公認心理師法(法附則第2条第2項)に規定された、一定条件のもと5年以上の実務経験を有する「現任者」には、文部科学大臣および厚生労働大臣が指定した「現任者講習会」の受講によって国家試験受験資格が承認される。指定科目――「公認心理師の職責」「主な分野に関する制度」「主な分野(保健医療、福祉、教育、司法・犯罪、産業・労働)に関する課題と事例検討」「精神医学を含む医学に関する知識」「心理的アセスメント」「心理支援」「評価・振り返り」――受講(計30時間)が定められた「現任者講習会」公認テキストとなる本書では、「現任者講習会」での講義範囲を詳細に解説するとともに、国家試験範囲に含まれる「基礎心理学」科目も収録し、受講者の経験・知識を整理することを編集方針としている。改訂版では、新たに「第1回公認心理師試験問題(平成30年9月9日実施分)」を追加している。
