Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the rise of neoliberalism, the accelerating globalization of liberal economies, the expansion of computer networks and supply chains, the Shock Doctrine and the opening of markets in all fields, and especially in Japan, the irreversible asymmetry between the center and the regions that became more apparent with the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident, we have experienced "the reality in front of us suddenly transformed into something else. We may already be in an age in which it is extremely difficult to grasp and accept the world from a monocular perspective as in the past. 1979年に都市の人間模様を写した『写真特急便 東京』No.1～No.12でデビューを果たした北島敬三が、満を持してふたたび連続写真集をスタートします。1991年のソ連崩壊以後、ネオリベラリズムの台頭と加速する自由主義経済のグローバル化、コンピューターネットワークとサプライチェーンの拡充、ショック・ドクトリンとあらゆるジャンルで進められる市場開放、とりわけ国内においては、東日本大震災と原発事故によってより顕在化した地方と中央との不可逆な非対称性など、私たちは「目の前の現実が突然何か別のものに姿を変えてしまうような経験」を何度も積み重ねてきました。私たちはすでに、かつてのように単眼的なパースペクティブで世界を把握、受容することがきわめて困難な時代の中にいるのかもしれません。この連続写真集『UNTITLED RECORDS』は、こうした時代の向来向後の視覚資料になることを目的として発刊されます。
