Description
[Machine Translation] A documentary about the world of old people living in the mountains of Slovakia, produced in Czechoslovakia in 1972 under the Communist regime, but banned by the authorities for 16 years after its completion. The Fatla Mountains in Slovakia. Through interviews with these people, the film painstakingly depicts the daily lives of elderly people over 70 years old who make their living by farming and shepherding in the barren land and harsh natural conditions. The film depicts the daily lives of these people, including an elderly man who is passionate about making marionette dolls that move with amazing precision; a shepherd who served in World War I and understands several languages; a man who built his own house while living on his knees for 25 years because of a crippled leg; and an elderly man who reads the Bible to his daffodils. The film questions the meaning of love, loneliness, dreams, labor, and life, and creates a philosophical world about life and death. After the export ban was lifted in 1988, the film was screened at film festivals around the world and won various awards. In Japan, it was screened as a special invitation film at the first Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in 1989, and was released theatrically three years later in May 1992. A commentary leaflet is enclosed.
