Nikutai no Yaju

This is the first DVD release of this picaresque romance that vividly depicts the shock and passion of youth. Director Keinosuke Tsuchiya has worked on several TV series since 1964, including "Ninja Force Gekko," "Majin Hunter Mitsurugi," and "Prince of Monsters," as well as Tsuburaya Productions' "Sen'e! Mighty Jack" for Tsuburaya Productions, and "Magma Ambassador" and "Spectrum Man" for P Productions. This is his theatrical directorial debut. The main character, a young doctor who is falling into a downward spiral, is played by Yuji Kawakita, who appeared in many Shochiku classics including "Kimi no na wa (What is Your Name?). Yoko Mihara plays Rumiko, a lover who has become a woman of the night. Yasuko Mita plays a nurse who is still in love with Segawa even though she has been poisoned by him. --Segawa is a brilliant doctor who is considered to be the future director of the hospital. However, there is a woman he cannot forget. He had promised to marry her, but she disappeared and has not been heard from since she went abroad to study. One day, Segawa performs an abortion operation on behalf of the director. When he enters the operating room, he finds Rumiko lying on the bed. After Segawa's departure, Rumiko's family went bankrupt and she was forced to marry a foreigner, and now she is working as a madam at a night club to survive. Segawa feels betrayed and anguished, but her friend and his wife persuade him to forgive her. Segawa decides to build a future together with a new heart, and visits Rumiko's restaurant. Rumiko, however, confesses that she is the mistress of Yoshino, the town's prominent official. Yoshino's henchmen assault her, and Segawa is left with a deep sense of disillusionment and hatred toward Rumiko. His twisted desire for revenge then turns to an unspecified woman.

裏切られた男の冷たい復讐! 純潔にしのびよる悪魔の囁き! 衝撃と激情の青春を鮮烈に描いたピカレスクロマンが初DVD化。監督の土屋啓之助は、1964年以降に主なものでTVシリーズの「忍者部隊月光」「魔人ハンター ミツルギ」「怪獣王子」、円谷プロの「戦え! マイティジャック」やピープロでは「マグマ大使」「スペクトルマン」などでメイン監督を務めた。劇場作品としては本作が監督デビュー作。主人公の堕ちていく青年医師は「君の名は」を始め松竹で数々の名作に出演した川喜多雄二。夜の女となってしまった恋人・ルミ子に三原葉子。毒牙にかかりながらも瀬川を想う看護師に三田泰子。――瀬川は将来の院長と目される優秀な医師。しかし彼には忘れられない女性がいた。それは恋人のルミ子で、結婚を約束していたが行方不明となり、海外留学から今まで消息を絶っていたのだった。そんなある日、院長の代理で中絶手術を行う事となった瀬川。彼が手術室に入るとベッドに横たわっていたのはなんとルミ子だった。瀬川が旅立った後、ルミ子の家が破産した上に彼女も外国人と結婚させられ、今では生きていくためにナイト・クラブのマダムをしていると言う。裏切られたと苦悩する瀬川に、友人夫妻は彼女を許すよう説得する。新たな気持ちで二人の将来を築こうと決意した瀬川はルミ子の店を訪ねる。ところがルミ子は町の顔役・吉野の情婦だと告白する。さらには吉野の乾分たちに暴行を受け、瀬川はルミ子へ対して激しい幻滅と憎悪を抱くのだった。そして彼の歪んだ復讐心は不特定の女性へと向かっていく。
