Double Cast

I was originally drawn to Yoshiki Fukuyama's music by Macross 7 where both these gentlemen played different elements of the character Basara Nekki (hence the CD title, "Double Cast"). After collecting all the Fire Bomber albums, I went on to buy many more albums from various phases of Fukuyama-san's carreer - all consistantly great quality music. I had heard Nobotoshi Canna sing character songs in Fushigi Yuugi and other shows. I thought his voice was a little rough when it came to some of the rock tunes, but he has a decent range and performed the more mellow songs beautifully. When I heard they were recording an mini-album together, I expected it to be a good. I was not disappointed! If you are looking for remakes of the Fire Bomber songs, go buy Fukuyama Fire!! or one of the two live DVD's that have been released in the last few years. Despite the CD's name, this is not the two of them reliving their parts on Macross 7. This is six very varied and distinct original songs written/co-written by Canna-san or the Fukuyamas. I love all the unique songs on this album, each for different reasons! With the backing musicians all being from Fukuyama-san's band, this could easily have turned into a F-Band plus guest album, but both men are featured equally in the lead singer parts. They were in excellent voice during all six songs - even Canna-san handled the rock songs very well - and the harmonies were incredible! The way the voices blended together, I can easily see now how they could credibly have had both men playing the same character! My only complaint about the Double Cast CD: with only six songs, it was over way too soon! I can't wait until the next one! peace

Agreed, this CD mini-album just makes my mind travel through many sceneries. Very far from Macross 7 material, very professional, Great Vocals with Lyrics from Kyoko Fukuyama (which I admire very much), Tetsuro Morita san on some of the Bass and of course, Aso Shoichiro on most of the drums. I really enjoy this album. (If you listened to the samples like I did, then be warned, the samples are nothing compared to the final Product)

I've been looking forward to this CD for a long time. It was definitely worth the wait! The songs have a variety of styles and Canna and Fukuyama wrote all the music. However, if you're looking for Macross 7/Basara titles, you won't find them here. Here's hoping for more releases from this talented duo!
