名作『火垂るの墓』が豪華キャストを携え実写映画化!野坂昭如原作「火垂るの墓」が、スタジオジブリでアニメ化されたのは20年前。毎年のようにテレビ放映され、未だ根強いファンを従えている名作が、ついに実写映画化。出演は、「ドクターコトー診療所」の畠山彩奈、「ライオンキング」の吉武怜朗、二人の母親役に松田聖子、未亡人役に松坂慶子、その他池脇千鶴、原田芳雄、長門裕之など演技派が脇を固めた。2005年の『誰がために』(主演「浅野忠信」:毎日映画コンクール男優主演賞受賞)で監督デビューを果たした日向寺太郎監督はデビュー以来音楽にも強いこだわりを持ち、前回は『矢野顕子』に映画音楽を依頼。彼女自身、実写映画の音楽は初の試みであった。音楽はスーパーギタリスト『渡辺香津美』率いるユニット『Castle In The Air』 が担当!日向寺監督は今回ギターサウンドで兄妹への鎮魂歌を奏でたいという強いイメージを持ち、実現すべく製作を依頼したのは、1979年に坂本龍一と伝説のバンド<KYLYN(キリン)>を結成、同年秋<イエロー・マジック・オーケストラ>のワールドツアーにも参加、世界的な評価を得ているスーパーギタリスト『渡辺香津美』と、ピアニストとして作、編曲家の『谷川公子』によるユニット『Castle In The Air 』。渡辺の激しくも切ないアルペジオギターと、谷川の優しいピアノの旋律が兄妹へのレクイエムとして美しく鳴り響く。映画音楽を担当するのは今回が初となる。『Castle In The Air』による全曲書き下ろし楽曲を完全収録!谷川の美しいメロディーと透明感溢れるアレンジに、渡辺の即興演奏が織りなる豊かな色彩感。二人の瑞々しい感性の絡み合う独特の世界は、唯一無比のミュージックとして世界中から絶大な支持を受けている。今回、映画音楽を初めてつとめるにあたり、よりクラシカルで普遍的ギター音楽としてのテーマ曲をイメージし、渡辺のアコースティックギターをフューチャー。『火垂るの墓』の為に生み出された珠玉の書き下ろし楽曲を完全収録!
