And listening to "Sumiba-ma-metropolis," I can regain those feelings that I have forgotten. The songs of "Yugure Retronica" are not nostalgic, and will join the ranks of new Japanese anthems. ライブハウスshimokitazawa ERAのレーベルbluegreenが、avengers in sci-fi、wooderd chiarie、the chef cooks meという3バンドを世に送り出してから早5年。その頃全く無名だったこの3バンドは、当時のインディー、メジャー問わず、飽和した音楽業界に新しい風を吹かせたのは記憶に新しい。そして、その3バンドを輩出したshimokitazawa ERAのレーベルbluegreenのリリースというものは、ライブハウス目線という現場至上主義からの挑戦でもあった。今までに類を見ない音楽的アプローチや、音楽的常識を覆すような、全く新しいタイプのバンドが日の目を浴びるようになったのも、丁度この頃からだっただろう。しかし今となっては、純粋に「音楽」というもので勝負出来ているバンドは、見渡す限り非常に限られているように個人的には感じている。何か変わった事をやるバンドが増えれば増えるほど、前述で取り上げた新鮮さは薄れていくばかり。音楽の実像はどこへいったのか。時代は回り、そして巡る。そんな今、「夕暮レトロニカ」というバンドがついに日の目を浴びる。普遍的な、時代に流される事の無い良質なメロディー、大衆の心をガッチリと掴む、独特の詩の世界観。酔っぱらい達が楽しそうに宴会で「夕暮レトロニカ」の「幸せまでも腹八分」を日本中で合唱する姿が目に浮かぶ。そして「住めば都」を聴きながら、忘れてしまったあの気持ちを取り戻す。決して懐古主義ではない、また、あらたなジャパニーズアンセムに仲間入りするであろう「夕暮レトロニカ」の楽曲達。正しく普遍的な音楽は、いつの時代も常に新しい感覚に浸らせてくれるはずだ。
