Based on the original story by Leiji Matsumoto of "The Galaxy Express 999," this full-fledged science fiction animation (42 episodes) was broadcast from March 1978 to February 1979 on the TV Asahi network. This long-awaited Blu-ray box release commemorates the 45th anniversary of the TV broadcast! Included as a special video feature is "Space Pirate Captain Harlock: The Mystery of the Arcadia," which was shown as part of the 1978 Toei Manga Matsuri. 『銀河鉄道999』の松本零士原作、1978年3月～1979年2月までテレビ朝日系にて放送された本格SFアニメーション(全42話)。チーフディレクターはりんたろう、キャラクター設計に小松原一男と豪華スタッフが結集。主人公ハーロックは松本零士作品の中でも最も人気のあるキャラクターの一人で、放送終了後も、『劇場版 銀河鉄道999』(1979年公開)にゲスト出演するほか、親友トチローとともに戦う日々を描いた映画「わが青春のアルカディア」(1982年公開)、TVシリーズ「わが青春のアルカディア 無限軌道SSX」(1982年～1983年放送)が製作された。本作は、国内のみならず世界的にも人気が高く、フランスでは最高視聴率70%を記録するなど、カリスマ的人気を博した。テレビ放送開始45周年を記念してファン待望のBlu-ray化! ――西暦2977年。繁栄に酔いしれる地球にあって、反逆の旗をひるがえす宇宙海賊がいた。その名はキャプテンハーロック。彼は親友の忘れ形見・まゆに会うために地球に降り立ち、その度に政府を騒がせていた。ある日、都市中心部に巨大なペナントが打ち込まれた。地球侵攻を開始した謎の生命体マゾーンの仕業であった。マゾーンの刺客に父を殺された少年・台羽正はハーロックと共にマゾーンと戦うことを決意。ハーロック及び40人の海賊とアルカディア号による、謎の侵略者マゾーンとの長く激しい戦いが始まった・・・。映像特典として1978年『東映まんがまつり』の中の一本として公開された「劇場版 宇宙海賊キャプテンハーロック アルカディア号の謎」を収録。りんたろうの新規インタビューも掲載したブックレット(64P予定)も封入。アウターケース仕様。
