Customer Reviews
If you like Final Fantasy, metal music or the other Black Mages albums then its a must and I guarantee you will love it. :-)
It seems with their third album, The Black Mages have finally hit their sophomore slump. Don't get me wrong, this is still a fine album, but compared to their self-titled debut and "The Skies Above", "Darkness and Starlight" just doesn't compare. The many of the songs are either third-stringers or too heavily remixed to be recognizable. In addition, where as their first two albums featured the entire spectrum of rock instruments, "Darkness and Starlight" seems to be about 90% synthesizer. It gives the album a cheap, MIDI feel that I think hurts what might have otherwise been strong song entries. The best way to sum this up is thus: I purchased the first two TBM CDs off of iTunes, and this one from CD Japan, but I wish it was the reverse. I would rather have hard copies of the first two CDs for posterity, and limit this one to a digital copy.
