映画『大奥』の舞台から3年前にさかのぼり、6代将軍の家宣の時代を描くスピン・オフドラマ。映画では描かれなかった名もなき大奥女中たちの愛と悲しみを描くアナザーストーリー。 人気女優・深田恭子が遂に大奥入り!! 高島礼子、松下由樹、木村多江ら、映画やテレビシリーズでおなじみの面々や、映画から初参加した井川遥らが豪華出演! 京都・太秦での撮影や豪華セット、衣装など映画と同じ!! 中臈・おまんは、御鈴廊下に並んで上様を迎えている。時は宝永七年。6代将軍家宣の時代。御台所・熙子(後の天英院: 高島礼子)、側室・お須免の方(後の蓮浄院: 松下由樹)、お古牟の方(後の法心院: 木村多江)は家宣との間に子をなしたもののいずれも早世し、お世継ぎ候補はお喜世の方(後の月光院: 井川遥)が産んだ子・鍋松(後の家継)のみであった。そんな大奥に武家の娘・ゆき(深田恭子)が奉公にあがる。ゆきは思いを寄せる男・吉之助がありながら、貧しい家計を助けるために奥入りを決めたのだった。ゆきは、「おまん」という通り名を総取締・滝川(浅野ゆう子)から与えられ、葛岡(鷲尾真知子)、吉野(山口香緒里)、浦尾(久保田磨希)らがゆきの教育係となり、大奥奉公が始まった――。
