天守物語 / 邦画
千歳百歳に唯一度、たった一度の恋だのに。水と空と地をさしつらぬいて――― 鏡花と玉三郎、絶世美の世界。『天守物語』は、『外科室』(92)『夢の女』(93)に続く三本目の坂東玉三郎監督作品である。しかも、この作品は玉三郎自ら主演し、さらにはニ役を演じるほど思いのこもった作品でもある。今回の映画は、玉三郎が富姫を演じる『天守物語』が、77年の初演以来繰り返し上演されてきた94年上演版をなぞったものである。SFXシーンは敢えて最低限に抑え、様式美を追求したおかげで、幻想の世界の味わいが濃くなり、玉三郎、宍戸開、宮沢りえといった俳優たちの美しさが生きて、静謐な反面、激しさも秘めた独特の映像に仕上がっている。――別名"白鷺城"と呼ばれる播州姫路城の天守には、伝説の金の眼の獅子頭とその不思議な力で生きる魔性の女たちが住んでいた。秋のある日、天守の主人・富姫は下界の者たちの鷹狩りのあまりの騒々しさに辟易し、夜叉ケ池の白雪姫に嵐を依頼する。突然の豪雨に流される人間たちを見て、富姫はしゃぎ楽しむのだった。そんな彼女のところへ、猪苗代に住む妹・亀姫が舌長姥と朱の盤坊を伴ってやって来る。亀姫が土産に持参した猪苗代の城主の首を見ながら、話に花を咲かせる富姫たち。さらに彼女たちは手毬遊びに興じ、一時を過ごすのだった。亀姫の帰り際、富姫は城へ戻る鷹狩りの一行から霊力を使って獲物の鷹を奪い取り、妹に土産として持たせてやるが・・・。
