ジョディ・フォスター監督作品。2大スター、"モンスター級"競演!現代社会問題を鋭く、スリリングに描くリアルタイム・サスペンス ── 財テク番組「マネーモンスター」で、パーソナリティを務めるリー・ゲイツ (ジョージ・クルーニー)。"ウォール街の魔術師"と称される彼は、毎回、巧みな話術で株価予想や視聴者へのアドバイスを番組内で繰り広げていた。しかしこの日は、思わぬ事態が起こっていた。上場したばかりのアイビス・キャピタルの株が急落し、損失額は8億ドル以上。同社のCEOによると、コンピュータのアルゴリズムによる株取引が暴走した結果だという。以前の番組でアイビスの株を勧めていたリーは、アイビスの広報担当者と中継をつなぎ、その理由についてインタビューしようとしていた。その頃、テレビ局の搬入口から、配達業者を装って侵入する男がいた。やがて男は「マネーモンスター」のスタジオに入り込む。最初はリーの「仕込み」だと思ったプロデューサー兼ディレクターのパティ・フェン(ジュリア・ロバーツ)だが、男は突然、拳銃を出すとリーに突きつける。さらに「放送を続けろ」と脅迫しながら、リーの体に起爆装置を巻き付けるのだった。果たしてリーの運命は?そしてアイビス株の裏に隠された衝撃の事実とは?事態は、さらに予測不能の方向へと導かれていく・・・。
