『舞妓Haaaan!!!』『なくもんか』など独自のコメディ路線での確かな演出力で観客の心をつかむ水田伸生監督と『フラガール』『パッチギ!』など実話からインスパイアされた人情喜劇で観る人の心を震わせる脚本家 羽原大介がタッグを組み、満を持して贈るのは、完全オリジナルのウェルメイドなコメディ映画。大分を舞台に個性あふれるキャストが織り成す笑いの共演。1本のロープを8人で引き合うという単純な"綱引き"を通して、女として、妻として、母として、それぞれの人生に奮闘する女たちの悲喜こもごもの人間ドラマを描いた、笑って笑って、ちょっと泣ける。笑って笑って、すごく元気になる、そんな物語。 ――お堅く真面目な大分市役所広報課・西川千晶 (井上真央)は、市長 (風間杜夫)から、あまりに知名度の低い大分市のPRをするため、女子綱引きチームを結成せよとの無理難題を課された。過去、大分コスモレディースという主婦たちからなる綱引きチームが世界チャンピオンに輝き、大分市のPRに寄与していた。千晶はとりあえずメンバー集めを試みるのだが、マイナースポーツなだけに人は集まらず、困った事態に。一方、千晶の母・容子 (松坂慶子)の勤め先の給食センターが廃止の憂き目にあっていた。廃止の決定を覆すべく、仲間を引き連れ市役所に直談判をする容子。その様子を見ていた千晶は一計を案ずる。給食センターの職員を綱引きメンバーにし、全国大会出場まで勝ち抜いたら廃止を取り消すよう市長と取引をしたのだ・・・。
