A sense of doom is evident on opening track Gimmie Shelter as the Stones wave goodbye to the 60's with this dark classic. Although the album doesn't live up to its promise with below par songs like Country Honk or Monkey Man,it will always be connected with the Altamont tragedy as it was released on the very same day. A tombstone to the decade of love.

Customer Reviews
This remastered version is excellent as the sound quality is brilliant and the mlps design is a work of art, however, granted that there are a couple of great tracks on this album, the album in itself as a complete package isn't that great and doesn't come close to their other albums like "Exile On Main Street", "Sticky Fingers" or even "Beggar's Banquet" in terms of overall quality of the tracks but I guess for something released in '69, this would have stood out at the time. "Gimme Shelter" is a great track which opens the album and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is another great track which closes the album while the others are a little better than filler material or really inferior covers in between. "Country Honk" is an amusing cover of their own material while "Love In Vain" is a poor attempt at covering the clearly superior Robert Johnson classic. Their endless 5-string Open-G tuning riffs and the constant attempts at trying to sound like the old-time blues greats of the 30's and 40's and constantly never coming close is downright irritating. The Stones constantly rips of the work of the great old blues masters but never takes the work to an original level.
