ヴォーカル/キーボードのスライ・ストーン(1944年生まれ)を中心に、60年代後半からサンフランシスコを拠点に活動した人種・性別ミックスのファンク・ロック・バンド。1968年の「Dance To The Music」が全米8位、さらに1968年末には「Everyday People」が初の全米No.1ヒットを記録。その後1969年にはウッドストック・フェスティバルに出演、アルバム『スタンド!』をリリースし、300万枚を売り上げた。1971年、「Family Affair」(全米1位)が収録されたアルバム『暴動』で全米1位を獲得。激動の60年代を過ぎ、夢や希望を失ったダークなサウンドは、70年代を代表する作品といわれている。その後、スライ・ストーンの薬物中毒やバンド内の不和により1975年頃には活動を停止した。CD-EXTRA仕様(デジタル・ブックレットをPDFファイルで収録。曲目リスト、楽曲クレジット、解説:英文ライナー訳、アーティスト写真、ウォール・ペーパー、他)。
