Ilan is a New York-based pianist/composer and co-founder (since 2016) of Newvelle Records, a French label specializing in analog music. The label is also active in Brooklyn, and this is the label's first distributed album. The recording of this album was not originally scheduled for release in September 2019, but it was so great that we decided to release it just for distribution. The physical version of the album will be released only in Japan. Becca and Eran have worked together since 2009 on Eran's album "The After Suite". The idea for this album came from a performance of the album on the US and European tours, as well as an intensive session in Switzerland, where Ealan was living, with Becca, who was amazed by Becca's interpretation of standards and the range of her voice. The idea for this album was born. About 10 years later, a project called Newvelle Recording Sessions was realized within the label, and as part of the project, a chance encounter between the two was realized. The opening track is from "Time: The Revelator" ( 2001 ), a masterpiece that Gillian Welch and her partner David Rawlings created together. The last song on the album is a blues song that many musicians have used in various styles, and it is also based on the version Gillian Welch sang on "Soul Journey" ( 2003 ). Interspersed with these are songs from the repertoire of Gershwin, Ellington, Jimmy Van Heusen, Peter DeRose, and other composers who have made up the Great American Songbook.

『ベッカ・スティーヴンス&アタッカ・クァルテット』に続く2ケ月連続のベッカ新作は、旧友イーラン・メーラー (p)とのデュオ・アルバム。グレイト・アメリカン・ソングブック、フォーク、ブルースなどを取り上げた圧倒的かつ感動的な内容。ベッカの「歌」「声」がここまで全面に押し出された作品は珍しく、そこにビル・エヴァンスやポール・ブレイに影響を受けたイーランのピアノが美しく幻想的に調和する。イーランはNY在のピアニスト/作曲家で、フランスのアナログ専門レーベルNewvelle Recordsの共同設立者 (2016～)。同レーベルはブルックリンでも活動しており、今回はレーベル初の配信アルバム。本作録音は2019年の9月で当初リリース予定はなかったが、あまりの素晴らしさに配信だけでもとリリースが決まった。フィジカル盤としては今回日本のみの発売。ベッカとイーランは、2009年にイーランのアルバム『The After Suite』で共演して以来の関係。このアルバムのアメリカ&ヨーロッパ・ツアーでの演奏、さらにイーランが住んでいたスイスでこのアルバムにも繋がる多くのレパートリーを二人で集中的にセッションし、そこでイーランがベッカのスタンダード解釈と声のレンジの広さに改めて驚嘆したことが本作アイデアの基となった。それから約10年経ち、Newvelle Recording Sessionsという企画がレーベル内で実現、その一環として二人の邂逅が実現した。冒頭曲はギリアン・ウェルチがパートナーのデヴィッド・ローリングスと二人で作った名作『Time: The Revelator』 (2001)より。アルバム最終曲は多くのミュージシャンが様々なスタイルで取り上げているブルースだが、これもギリアン・ウェルチの『Soul Journey』 (2003)で歌っていたヴァージョンを参考にしている。これらに挟まれて、ガーシュイン、エリントン、ジミー・ヴァン・ヒューゼン、ピーター・デローズといったグレイト・アメリカン・ソングブックを形成する作曲家たちのレパートリーが並ぶ。
