決して、もう二度と。せめて、もう一度。「昼顔」衝撃の結末。決して出会ってはいけない二人の、運命の歯車が動き出す――。 主人公・紗和を演じるのは、女優として更なる新境地を開くべく、この映画化に並々ならぬ覚悟で挑んだ上戸彩。紗和と愛し合う北野を演じるのは、ドラマでの熱演が話題となった斎藤工。また、ドラマに引き続き北野の妻・乃里子役に伊藤歩、紗和の勤めるレストランのオーナー・杉崎役で今回初登場となる平山浩行が出演。メガホンをとるのは、『容疑者χの献身』(08年)、『真夏の方程式』(13年)など数々の作品でその演出力を高く評価された西谷弘。さらに、脚本を井上由美子、音楽を菅野祐悟がドラマに引き続き担当。 ――お互いに結婚していながら、惹かれあい愛し合うようになった笹本紗和と北野裕一郎。その一線を越えた関係はいつしか明るみになり、ついに二人は別れざるを得なくなってしまった。そして、紗和は夫とも別れ一人になった。あれから3年―紗和は海辺の町で慎ましく暮らしていた。オーナーの杉崎尚人が営むレストランでの見習いと狭いアパートの往復が日課で、北野の夢を見る事さえ既に無くなっていた。海岸沿いの小さな町には、彼女の過去を知る者は誰もいない。一方、大学の非常勤講師となっていた北野は蛍に関する講演を、ある街で行う事に。講演中、客席に目を向けたとき、彼は言葉を失ってしまう。そこには、紗和の姿があった。「神様は、私を試していたのでしょうか」運命のいたずらか、再びめぐり会う二人。あの時に交わした愛を忘れられず、どちらからともなく逢瀬を重ねていく。清流ながれる蛍の住処が"約束の場所"。そんな中、二人の前に現れたのは、北野の妻・乃里子だった・・・。
