2005年に54歳で亡くなった偉大なるR&Bシンガー=ルーサー・ヴァンドロス 最初期の作品『Luther』(1976年) 待望の再発売が決定! ルーサー・ヴァンドロスはソロ・デビュー前、デヴィッド・ボウイ『Young Americans』(1975年) など数多くのセッションでバック・ヴォーカルを務めていたが、その合間に、自身を中心とするプロジェクト「ルーサー」名義で、Cotillion Recordsから2枚のアルバムを発表。これら2枚はチャートにこそ入ることはなかったが、その洗練された楽曲と、ルーサーの若々しくも情熱的な歌声のマリアージュで、好事家たちの間では"伝説のアルバム"として語り継がれてきた。後にアーティスト本人が権利を買い戻し、CD化やデジタル配信は一切されていなかった。一時は中古レコード市場で数万円の高値で取り引きされていたほどで、まさしくソウルミュージック・ファン垂涎のお宝アルバムとして知られている。本作『Luther』は、すべての楽曲がルーサー・ヴァンドロスの書き下ろし。力強くファンキーなビートと、モータウンで数多くのヒットを生んだポール・ライザーによる流麗なアレンジに乗って歌い上げるルーサー節が心地よい。ナット・アダレイJr.(key)など、80年代以降のルーサー・サウンドを形成するキーマンが早くも参加している。今回CDにのみボーナストラック1曲が収録される。
