A review by another person on this site suggested that this cd was compressed in sound. I had purchased this cd and did not hear it. So, I went a step further and purchased a Mobile Fidelity Gold CD of this album that I have listened to for some forty years. The Japanese DSD copy is on a par with the Mobile Fidelity issue. Slightly different, but almost immessurable and both absolutley outstanding. Both better than the US regular remastered store version. I say this using Hi End audiophile equipment by Jeff Rowland, Audio Research and JM Labs. Both the mobile fidelity or the Japanese version provide all the treble and bass you can get from this outstanding album Neither is compressed.

This has just been ruined with compression. I've heard worse, so I'll give it 2 stars and besides, the packaging is good, but the Mofi or original discs will trounce this. The Anesini remastering for Columbia (also good) was probably the source here as this has the same bonus tracks, but Sony Japan couldn't leave well enough alone. Loud, bad, compressed.
The packaging for this mini lp sleeve is great. The sound could use some improving though. Even though the U.S. remasters and Japanese versions are remastered by the same person, the Japanese version has been cranked up in volume. This is the case with the first Santana album and Santana III as well. Running it through audio software shows that the music has been cranked up so loud that the signal has been squashed. Why do they keep doing this?
