Description

[Machine Translation] Formed in 2015, the Michel Reis Japan Quartet has been active with its current members since its inception. Takashi Sugawa and Akihiro Nishiguchi are Berklee College of Music alumni and longtime friends of Michel. With the addition of newcomer Shun Ishiwaka, the quartet has created a one-of-a-kind ensemble. The improvisational attitude of Sugawa, Nishiguchi, and Ishiwaka inspired Michel, and the Japan Quartet draws intense passion from Michel's elegant and melodic piano. This first studio release was recorded in Tokyo after a tour in May 2017. It features seven songs written by Michel for the band, as well as improvisations by the four musicians.

2015年に結成されたミシェル・レイス・ジャパン・カルテットは、結成当時から現メンバーで活動を続けている。須川崇志と西口明宏はバークリー音楽大学の同窓で、ミシェルとは長い友人である。そこに新鋭・石若駿が加わり、唯一無二のアンサンブルを生みだすカルテットが誕生した。須川、西口、石若の即興アティテュードにミシェルが触発され、ジャパンカルテットではエレガントでメロディックなミシェルのピアノから激しい情熱が引き出されている。初のスタジオ盤となる今作は、2017年5月のツアー後に東京で録音された。ミシェルがこのバンドのために書き下ろした7曲と4人の即興演奏を収録。
