This documentary documentary explores the innovative life of Frank Zappa ( 1940.12.21-1993.12.4 ), an American composer, arranger, guitarist, rock musician, and pioneer in all the arts, who built one of the greatest discographies in music history, along with Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Condemned by the Church, banned by the police, and banned by radio, Zappa existed in a world apart from commercial art and commercial success, and had a profound influence on the Beatles, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Tom Waits, and countless others, and was a major influence on the music industry. The film uses thousands of hours of archival material left by Zappa himself to chronicle the life of this giant, who was ranked No. 22 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time," inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and awarded a Grammy Award for Special Achievement and Lifetime Achievement in 1997. This is the first time this archival material has been made public. The director is a talented actor who made his film debut as a gangster competing with Charles Bronson in "Super Magnum" ('85), the third in the Paul Kersey series, and starred with Keanu Reeves in the "Bill and Ted's Big Adventure" series. He is also the director of Mutant Freaks ('93) and other films. The film, which took more than five years to make, carefully and honestly brings to light the unknown human nature and sincere approach to creation of Zappa, who is generally associated with the image of an eccentric and eccentric person.
