「ニコ生ホラー百選」二年連続ランキング一位! ニコニコ生放送で『リング』『呪怨』を押さえてユーザーアンケートで1位を記録した伝説の心霊ホラーの劇場版が遂に登場!! 主演は「仮面ライダーウィザード」で人気爆発、2015年1月1日に人気アイドルグループ"PASSPO☆"を卒業した奥仲麻琴。本作が映画初主演。牧村部長は前作に続き、「特捜戦隊デカレンジャー」の伊藤陽佑。先輩のリリは、『トイレの花子さん 新劇場版』で主演・主題歌を担当した歌手で女優の上野優華。謎の少女・玲花には、『竜宮、暁のきみ』の谷内里早。他に、タレントでファッションモデルの工藤美桜、『へんげ』の森田亜紀らが彩りを添える。また、主題歌「ether」をロックバンド"摩天楼オペラ"が手がけ、同バンドのキーボーディスト、彩雨が音楽監修を務める。原作・脚本は『こわい童謡』、『渋谷怪談』シリーズの福谷修。監督は『骨壺』、『2ちゃんねるの呪い 劇場版』の永江二朗が続投する。 ――高校生の二宮佳夕は、ふとしたきっかけで写真部に入部する。しかしこの写真部は普通とは違っていた。心霊写真を専門に研究・調査する"心霊写真部"だったのだ。佳夕は持ち前の好奇心で、牧村部長や先輩のリリと共に調査を進め、時にミステリアスな少女のアドバイスを受けながら、心霊写真に秘められた、恐るべき真実を紐解いていく。謎が謎を呼ぶ中、やがて彼らの気付かぬ間に、巷を騒がせるマスク殺人鬼の影が忍び寄っていた・・・。果たして彼らの運命は!? そして殺人鬼と心霊写真との関係とは―!?
