『プラダを着た悪魔』から9年。恋に仕事に全力で頑張ってきた女性たちに贈るオトナのラブ・ストーリー。恋や家族との絆を音楽とともに深めていく主人公をアカデミー賞(R)受賞のアン・ハサウェイが好演! ――モロッコで生活しながら人類学博士号を目指すフラニー(アン・ハサウェイ)は、ミュージシャン志望の弟のヘンリーが交通事故で昏睡状態に陥ったため、急遽家族が暮らすニューヨークへと戻ってくる。大学を辞めてミュージシャンになると言った弟に反対し大喧嘩になって以来、疎遠となっていたフラニーは、弟の意識が戻る可能性は低いと医者に聞かされ動揺する。弟の部屋でみつけた自作の曲を初めて聴くと、それは人の胸を打つ素晴らしい曲だった。自分が今まで弟のことを何も知らないでいたことを悔やみ、彼が何を感じてきたかを知ろうと、フラニーは弟の日記を手に、バイトをしていたギター店、ガールフレンドと一緒に行った食堂、ライブハウスなどの足跡をたどっていく。ある日、ライブハウスで、彼が憧れるミュージシャンのジェイムズ(ジョニー・フリン)と出会い・・・。
