デジタルウルトラシリーズを作り上げたデジタルウルトラプロジェクトが、総合プロデュース! 『アイアンキング』は、1972年10月から毎週日曜日午後7時、TBSの武田薬品工業枠「タケダアワー」で放送開始。プロデューサーは「ウルトラセブン」を担当したTBSの橋本洋二。彼の人脈により企画・脚本は佐々木守ひとりで受け持つ。そのためか、全編を通じて見られるコメディタッチな演出とは裏腹に作品自体のテーマや内容は風刺的であり、社会に対するアンチテーゼが込められるなど極めて重厚なストーリーである。また、スタッフにも特技・高野宏一、美術・池谷仙克、照明・小林哲也、撮影・鈴木清など「ウルトラセブン」のスタッフを随所に配し、特撮もドラマも一級の仕上がりとなっている。主演は日活で吉永小百合との名コンビを演じた浜田光夫、当時のスーパーアイドル石橋正次。ゲスト主役も豪華で、「ウルトラマンA」の星光子、「～18歳シリーズ」の岡崎友紀、「サインはV」の坂口良子など稀代のアイドルが続々登場。豪華なキャスティングも話題を呼んだ。第23話～第26話収録の第6巻。
