2018年に惜しくも急逝した大杉漣、最初のプロデュース作にして最後の主演作。独房で孤独な生活を送る死刑囚たちと心を通わせ苦悩し葛藤する"教誨師(きょうかいし)"の物語。死刑囚役に光石研、烏丸せつこ、古舘寛治といったベテラン俳優や、映画初出演となる玉置玲央。監督・脚本は、死刑に立ち会う刑務官を描いた『休暇』や『アブラクサスの祭』で脚本を担当し、『ランニング・オン・エンプティ』で監督を務めた佐向大。――プロテスタントの牧師、佐伯保。彼は教誨師として月に2回拘置所を訪れ、一癖も二癖もある死刑囚と面会する。佐伯は、彼らが自らの罪をしっかりと見つめ、悔い改めることで残り少ない "生" を充実したものにできるよう、そして心安らかに "死" を迎えられるよう、親身になって彼らの話を聞き、聖書の言葉を伝える。しかし、意図せずして相手を怒らせてしまったり、いつまで経っても心を開いてもらえなかったり、苦難の日々が繰り返される。死刑囚たちと真剣に向き合うことで、自分の人生とも向き合うようになる佐伯。そんな中、ついにある受刑者に死刑執行の命が下される・・・。豪華版は、特典ディスク付きのDVD2枚組。『教誨師』特別ブックレット(モノクロ28P)封入。豪華版仕様スリーブケース仕様。
