Drift 5 Deluxe Edition

This is a very simple film as you would expect, and even if you don't understand Japanese you stand a good chance of following this. The majority of the film is driving scenes, and honestly, that's all this DVD is really about. Obviously, unlike an actual race it's scripted, but as an improvement to the racing films from America this is all genuine footage! There's just a feeling that it's half way between a cheap TV soap and going to watch some good old fashioned street racing. And the latter is what you should buy this DVD for it you're looking. The story line is very cheap and has been done over and over by so many other films. On top of that, the acting is mostly quite low quality. The bad guy and good guy are painful stereotypes who go through painfully stereotypical emotions until a rather cringe worthy ending that I won't give away. Hotta Yuika's acting skills around this time had been proven to be quite good, but she just looks rather lost here as her character clearly has no depth for her to work with. Incidentally, despite the pretty girls, there is no gravure stuff here. Despite all the criticisms of the story and acting, I guess this actually ends up giving the film a rather loveable tack. As I said, it's not really about the story, so this doesn't feel like it holds the DVD back. Just relax, don't expect anything over classy, and enjoy what it is. A good bit of fun
