Baachan Road

[Machine Translation] A granddaughter, who is about to get married and is a grandmother, lives in an institution with an injured leg. The granddaughter's wish to "walk down the aisle together" moves the grandmother, who has been shutting herself away in a facility, and the two of them go through a series of rehabilitation to achieve their goal. Master filmmaker Tetsuo Shinohara directs this adaptation of Naho Uemura's screenplay, which won the Grand Prize at the Film School of Tokyo's Plot Competition 2016. In an age when human relationships are becoming increasingly fragile, the film movingly depicts the bonds of family (grandparents, parents, and children) that transcend generations, as well as the joy of living in demand. Fumine, in her first leading role in a film since her debut in "Sambongi Agricultural High School, Equestrian Club" (2008), gives an expressive and lively performance as Natsumi, the always cheerful and pure granddaughter, and Mitsuko Kusabue, a famous actress representing Japan, plays Kiyo, the strong-minded grandmother who tries hard to meet her granddaughter's wishes. The film co-stars a cast of young and veteran actors, including Takahiro Miura as Natsumi's fiancee, Dori Sakurada as the physical therapist who provides rehabilitation treatment at the facility, and Shingo Tsurumi as Natsumi's kind father.

結婚を間近に控えた根っからのばぁちゃんっ子の孫娘と、足を怪我して施設で暮らす祖母。「一緒にバージンロードを歩きたい」という孫娘の願いが、施設に引きこもり心を閉じかけていた祖母を動かし、二人でその目標に向かってリハビリを重ねていく――。「映画美学校プロットコンペティション2016」にて最優秀賞を受賞した上村奈帆の脚本を、名匠・篠原哲雄監督がメガホンを取り映画化。人間関係の希薄化が取りざたされる今の時代に、世代を越えた家族〈祖父母・父母・子〉の絆や、人から求められて生きることの喜びを、感動と共に描きだす。いつも明るく、純粋な孫娘・夏海を、デビュー作『三本木農業高校、馬術部』(08)以来の映画主演となる文音が表情豊かに活き活きと演じ、孫娘の願いに応えようと頑張る芯の強い祖母・キヨを、日本を代表する名女優・草笛光子が演じている。共演陣には、夏海の婚約者に三浦貴大、施設でリハビリ治療を行う理学療法士に桜田通、また夏海の優しい父に鶴見辰吾ら、若手、ベテランの実力派俳優たちが集結。
