昨年、11月にデビューアルバム「ピニャコラーダ」をリリースしたばかりの久和田佳代。早くも関東、関西のラジオサーキットで注目され、パワープレイ、ライブ出演、特集番組までが相次ぎ、そのクルーヴィーでのびやかな歌唱力の他、天真爛漫なキャラクターが戦後一世風靡した”笠置シヅ子の再来か?”と噂されています。笠置シヅ子は1914年生まれで、戦後、40年～50年代にかけて荒廃と混乱の中、大スターとして君臨し若き美空ひばりにも影響をあたえた伝説的な歌手。今年は不思議にも運命のいたずらか生誕100年迎える笠置シヅ子と”笠置シヅ子の再来か?”と噂される久和田佳代が交わる年、デビューアルバム「ピニャコラーダ」に収められていた笠置シヅ子の「たよりにしてまっせ」のカバーも好評だったが、前々から久和田佳代のライヴで絶賛されていた笠置シヅ子代表作「買い物ブギ」のカバーが次の作品に決定した。プロデュースは前作に引き続きs-ken、パーカッションに宮川剛、チューバに古本大志、アコーディオンに田ノ岡三郎、ギターに福澤和也など日本を代表する腕利きのミージシャンがタイトなスケジュールのなか集結、これまで多くのアーティストがカバーしてきた「買い物ブギ」の中でも決定版とも言える活気あふれる商店街を彷彿とさせるような、ストリート感あふれるサウンドが生まれた。その他、カップリングには、やはり久和田佳代のライヴでは定番で人気の高い「丸木舟」も収録。小笠原諸島は東京の南1000キロの大海原に浮かぶ絶海の孤島だが「丸木舟」はそんな小笠原諸島に古くから伝わる民謡で、こちらも近年多くのアーティストがカバーしているが、久和田佳代バージョンは新たに「丸木舟」を漕ぐ掛け声と、斬新なリズムアレンジで、これまでにないオリジナルに近い作品になってる。なお「買い物ブギ」「丸木舟」ともにオリジナル楽曲は、古い作品でメクラ、ツンボ、土人など差罰用語がふくまれており、その部分のみオリジナルの良さを壊さないように修正、変更してあります。
