Japan has gone from strength to strength when it comes to producing quality movies of all genres. About 8 years ago when I saw this movie for the first time it was the first Japanese movie that Ive seen that wasnt animated, made by Kurosawa or contained Ninjas, Samurai, Yakuza or Very big Robots. This bittersweet gem of japanese cinema was remade as an Inferior but still half decent american movie with Richard Gere And Jennifer Lopez. If you havent seen the original or if you have only seen the international shorter version then you must get this DVD. This version is about 16 minutes longer than the versions avaible on DVD outside of Japan and asia. The longer version IS the superior version of this movie. The only thing I miss from the international version was the explanatory intro that explained how ballroom dancing was viewed in Japan and that helped to set the tone of the movie for us westerners.The dvd packaging is very nice to look at and I really recommend this movie to anyone interested in japanese film.
