Twenty years after the first Rainbow album, Ritchie Blackmore resurrected the band (with a new lineup) to record Stranger In Us All. The results strike a fair balance between the medieval metal style of Rainbow's heyday in the 70s and their more polished, radio-friendly rock of the 80s. Vocalist Doogie White, who also auditioned for Iron Maiden, does well but sometimes tries too hard to sound like Ronnie James Dio. This is a minor criticism, because the songs are all very good and Blackmore's guitar skills are as sharp as ever. The standout track is a thunderous arrangement of Grieg's Hall Of The Mountain King, but Wolf To The Moon, Black Masquerade and the Japanese bonus Emotional Crime are all worth a listen.
The last Rainbow album now availible in a cardboard sleeve. All other albums was previously released in a card-board sleeve, and now we have opportunity to have a complete cardboard-sleeve Rainbow collection!
