The chemistry between the lyrics and the avant-garde, sometimes mellow playing of Kyohei ( G ) creates a unique musical world that moves between a grand folk-rock sound and a minimalist sound. The sound of the album incorporates various elements such as country, folk, 60s and 70s rock, punk, grunge, emo, lo-fi, and even noise music, and yet most of the lyrics are written in Japanese, with the exception of the instrumental tracks. 孤高でいて温かく、実験的なのにポップ! HOOT STRINGSが辿り着いた「音楽の島」が今ここに! 新しい4人体制のHOOT STRINGSによって生み出された今回のフルアルバム「The Island」では、Yoshimi(Vo,G)による朴訥としながらもエモーショナルな詞曲に、Ken(Dr)& Tac(Ba)によるソリッドかつワイルドな演奏に支えられるリズムとKyohei(G)によるアヴァンギャルドで時にメロウな演奏が加わるという化学反応により、壮大なフォークロックサウンドからミニマルサウンドまでを行き来する独特の音楽世界が構築されている。カントリーやフォーク、60～70年代ロック、パンク、グランジ、エモ、ローファイ、果てはノイズミュージックまで、様々な要素が好き放題に取り入れられたサウンドであるにも関わらず、今回はインスト曲を除き全編にわたってほとんどが日本語で作詞され、良質な日本語ロックアルバムとして聴けてしまう点もこの作品の魅力と言える。「The Island」のタイトル通り、バンドが辿り着いた新境地を「島」に例えたコンセプチュアルなアルバムでもあり、全編を通して聴くことによってその世界を深く堪能出来る仕上がりとなっている。どこにでもありそうでどこにもない、どこか新しい音楽が鳴り響く未踏の「島」がそこで待っている!
