台湾で「知らない人間はいない」と言われるほど、子供から大人まで楽しまれてきた人形演劇『布袋劇(ほていげき)』。その映像にほれ込んだニトロプラス"虚淵玄"が原案・脚本・総監修を担当、台湾布袋劇で随一の知名度とクオリティを誇る制作会社"霹靂國際多媒體股分有限公司(略称: 霹靂社)"との奇跡のコラボレーションによる、完全新作の日台合同映像企画が始動。キャラクターデザインは、ニトロプラスが率いるデザイナー陣が担当。人形の造形アドバイザーとして、フィギュアメーカーの"グッドスマイルカンパニー"が参加。ドラマ、アニメ、映画の劇伴を中心に手がけ、アーティストへの楽曲提供も数多く行っている澤野弘之が劇伴を制作。第一期の放送は2016年7月8日(金)から開始され、日本や台湾のみならず、アジア圏で評判を得た本作は、コミカライズなどメディアミックスも展開。続編制作も決定している。本作は、そのさらなる「Thunderbolt Fantasy Project」の展開として、第一期の前日譚を描いた小説「Thunderbolt Fantasy 東離劍遊紀外伝」の「殺無生編」に加え、後日譚として虚淵玄が書き下ろした新作エピソード「殤不患編」を合わせた映像化企画である。劇伴は一期に引き続き、澤野弘之が担当。主題歌『RAIMEI(Chinese ver.)』は、T.M.Revolution 西川貴教が初の中国語での歌唱に挑戦した。音響監督は岩浪美和が担当。スペシャルブックレット、ドラマCD、ポストカード封入。三方背BOX、ニトロプラス描き下ろしデジパック仕様。
