Diggin' It Up

突然の解散発表だったThe Brixton AcademyのメンバーがVJも加え作り上げた1st ALBUM"Diggin' It Up"音楽だけにとどまらず活動に至るまで拘り続けてきた彼らが、突如解散した理由はこの音源の中にあると確信できる。80'Sのエレクトロポップバンドという仮面を投げ捨て制作したこの作品は恐ろしいほどファンキーで、真夜中の都会を思い浮かべる静寂さとダークネスな作品。このバンドの特徴でもあるSIMのボーカルもまたクールで澄み渡るメロディーラインを演出している。アルバム名のDiggin' It Upは、直訳すると『掘り当てる』。今作をを宝物になぞらえ、『秘宝を掘り当てた』とみなさんに感じてもらえるようにという自信の表れ、そして、彼らが全ての音楽を消化 (Dig)して、アップデートいるバンドであるというミュージックラバーとしての意思表示でもある。楽曲は、もちろん前作のEPも含め彼らの80's Discoなイメージはあるものの、名古屋のバンドOrlandのYumaをフィーチャーして作ったNew Jack Swingなナンバーや、R&Bの2step要素を取り入れたり、Houseや、UK Garageなどの90'sにインスパイアされているところも魅力の一つである。そして、もう一つ今作では、ソロ活動も始めたex.DOPING PANDA YUTAKA FURUKAWAがプロデューサー兼レーディングエンジニアとして全編に渡り参加。彼の持つDOPINGPANDA後期のファンキーな要素との科学反応がみものである。
