2010年6月にリリースされた1stフルアルバム『A City's Guidebook』より約2年、待望の2ndアルバム『MAGIC LABYRINTH』が6月20日にリリースされる。様々なアプローチでポテンシャルの深さを知らしめた1stを経ての今作は、前作同様、表現の手段としての幅は十分に広く新たな方向性も感じさせるが、音の輪郭がはっきりとしたことでオリジナリティと表現力がグッと増し、さらにはギュッと引き締まり、不思議な統一感を生んでいる。くすぶっているもの、ぼやけているものがより鮮明に浮き彫りになったというのもおかしな話だが、愚痴を吐き出すという自分の奥深い部分に近づくことで現実味が増し、それが明確なアプローチというカタチになり届くから感じる統一感だろうか。音の輪郭というよりは、そういった内面が芯のある音へと姿を変えたのかもしれない。日常という視点から自分という部分に焦点を切り替え、そこを追求することで見えた風景をどう感じ取り歩いていくか。すなわち人生の歩き方、と言ったら大袈裟ではあるけれど、自分と向き合うということはつまりはそういうことだろう。いままでは自分の心の中にある街の歩き方を描いてきたTOYが、もう一歩内へと踏み込んだ作品がこの『MAGIC LABYRINTH』だ。TOYはいつだって変わらずに、その先の景色を見つめているから。そこに行くためのものだとわかっているから、人はやりきれない日常や繰り返す感情を愛おしく想うことができるし、そんな日々を大切にしているからこそ、痛みを受け入れることもできるのだ。よりリアルになったTOYの音楽心象風景。正解も答えもわからないけど、いまここに記されたものだけが彼らを揺さぶり、次の景色を作っていくんだろう。『MAGIC LABYRINTH』にはどうしようもない日々の迷いと、素晴らしい世界へという変わらない精一杯のメッセージが静かに込められている。
