Dragon Ball #8AnimationKamesennin at his most lecherous
Kamesennin goes for a bit of toilet peeping in this volume with the aid of Bulma's new shrinking device, with humerous consequences for the old pervert. Bulma joins Goku on his Dragonball search, but there's something he hasn't told her yet. Like who ELSE is after them...

Dragon Ball #9AnimationThe General Blue saga
A good saga which involves the underwater pirate treasure & the dragonball hidden in a skull. How the dragonball managed to get all that way underwater into a skull is beyond me. Anyway, with the boring muscle tower out the way things start to pick up a bit here. The rest of the gang gets involved now which makes for a much more interesting story.

Dragon Ball #10AnimationArale chan!!
To penguin village we go & the characters from Dr Slump make an appearance. Lots of fun, but I have to wonder whether Arale can ride Kinto-un because she's pure of heart or she's a robot. Kinto-un can hold non living objects after all...

Dragon Ball #11AnimationTao Pai Pai
The introduction of more characters who will appear later on. After a defeat by Tao Pai Pai, Goku travels up Karin's tower for the much rumoured water that will make him stronger. Problem is he has to get it first, & Karin isn't making it easy for him. Afterwards we have the defeat of Tao Pai Pai, which will have further consequences in Dragonball & later on Z.

Dragon Ball #6AnimationA little bit of filler
A bit of filler in here & a bit more Red Ribbon Army. I was putting off ordering these DVDs & skipping straight to the Piccolo saga. I decided I would continue to get them in order however & got this & the next 2 volumes. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. There's nothing bad to report here. There's nothing outstanding either, but it's still an enjoyable bunch of episodes.

Dragon Ball #7AnimationMuscle Tower
It's Goku vs Muscle Tower on this DVD. The introduction of some more wierd & wonderful characters including Hachan - Jinzoningen 8 (or Android 8 in the dub). It's a fun disc, seeing Goku work his way up the tower. The downside is there is a bit of filler towards the end which contradicts what happens later on in 'Z', but if you can look past that you'll enjoy it.

Dragon Ball The Movies #08 Dragon Ball Z Moetsukiro!! Nessen, Ressen, Cho GekisenAnimationIntro to Broly
What starts out as an interesting story devolves into another beat em up with an indestructable foe. That's not a bad thing though, & it's why we watch Dragonball Z anyway. A bit of history about the planet Vegeta & Vegeta's father are discussed in here, but like all movies the question of canonicity comes into play.

Dragon Ball The Movies #13 Dragon Ball Z Ryuken Bakuhatsu!! Goku ga Yaraneba Dare ga YaruAnimationThe final DBZ movie
This movie has the most anticlimactic boss battle ever, but that's not what the movie is about. It's the final DBZ movie & a fun romp with even characters who fell into the background like Krillin actually doing somthing (in this case helping find the Dragonballs). Yes this is one of the few movies that actually has the Dragonballs in it!!!

Dragon Ball Z Vol.6AnimationThe Goku & Vegeta fight
Here it is. On the last volume the battle started, on here it continues till its conclusion. An excellent battle though I still prefer the Piccolo battle at the end of Dragonball. The last battle is just a really long converation about going to Namek, but don't let that put you off. It's a prelude of what's to come.

Dragon Ball The Movies 17 Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure (Makafushigi Dai Boken)AnimationA fun movie
I was getting everything in order, but when this movie was released I had to have it then & there. I suppose you could say this is a retelling of the tournament where the gang meet Tenshinhan & Chaotzu for the first time. From what I remember there is no real backstory to Chaotzu in the series, though here he is portrayed as an emperor who is betrayed. Karin is introduced, as are Tao Pai Pai, Upa & Bora.

Dragon Ball Z Vol.5AnimationGoku's back!!
Goku comes back to life & arrives just in time to stop the massive Saiyan Nappa from killing all of his friends. Then, arguably the greatest fight in the whole series (Goku vs Vegeta) begins.
-
Dragon Ball #5AnimationEnd of the tournament
The tournament reaches its climax with Jackie Chun (Muten Roshi) fighting Goku. The great turtle hermit only just wins to his own amazement, but just when he thinks he's in the money he offers to buy dinner. Goku basically eats the winnings away. Then we have thge beginning of the Red Ribbon Army saga, though that's only touched on, on the episodes on this disc.

Dragon Ball The Movies #01 Dragon Ball ZAnimationThe beginning
I've seen this movie a lot of times in the past, but the new video is outstanding on it. You can really see here how the Funimation releases bump up the colour on their video making it look somewhat garish. A good movie, a good alternate beginning to Dragonball Z.
-
Dragon Ball The Movies #02 Dragon Ball Z Kono Yo De Ichiban Tsuyoi YatsuAnimationMovies, the alternate DBZ reality
Not one of the better movies in the franchise, but not as bad as some of those which come later (movie 4 for example). Excellent video quality is a given, & the audio is nice & clean. Not a movie you'll want to watch over & over again, but you will want to revisit it every couple of years.

Dragon Ball Z Vol.3AnimationLots of filler
I wasn't looking forward to this DVD, I have to admit. There are lots of "filler" moments, & things that are quite irrelevant to the series. I did it though, I sat through it. I must say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Gohan's rough training is featured on here, & while these episodes are the calm before the Saiyajin storm they are still well worth having.
-
Dragon Ball Z Vol.4AnimationThe Saiyajin have landed!
Brilliant!! This is where it all starts. Vegeta & Nappa land & the battle begins as Goku works his way back through Snake Way to join his friends. Chaotzu dies, Yamcha dies & going from memory it isn't going to stop there!! I can't wait for the next disc!!
-
Dragon Ball #4AnimationThe tournament begins
These are the episodes that Funimation started with in the US due to rights issues. Looking at the Funi release & this release... this release is brilliant!! It not only looks good, but these tournament discs are a lot of fun. Lots of wacky fighting and slapstick.
-
Dragon Ball Z Vol.1AnimationThe video is incredible!!
I've seen Dragonball Z in the past, I've purchased those horrible "remastered" box sets from Funimation, but seriously... you can forget all that because THESE DVDs are the ultimate in Dragonball Z viewing. I just can't get over how fantastic the show looks. If you're disappointed with those horrible widescreen releases in the US & Australia & you don't care whether the show is subbed or not then this is for you.
-
Dragon Ball Z Vol.2AnimationWaiting...
I still can't get over the amazing video... Anyway, these take place shortly after Goku's death & involve a lot of what is known as "filler" episodes. Lots of running on Snake Way, lots of Gohan training, bits of Vegeta & Nappa... I was a bit unsure about watching it as I know what to expect, but I still enjoyed it all the same. Worth a purchase to complete the set.

Dragon Ball #3AnimationTraining for the Tenkaichi Budokai
Kururin is introduced, & he & Goku start to train for the Tenkaichi Budokai. This discs ends just as the tournament is about to start, placing the next disc right at the start of it. Lots of fun & Kururin is great as the worldly one against Goku's innocence.
