My Neighbor Totoro / Tonari No Totoro (English subtitles, French & more languages available) [Blu-ray]AnimationGreat classic in perfect qualityMy Neighbor Totoro is a classic, everyone knows that. Although I watched this one as a young woman with my mother, we fell in love with it like children. It's simple, but lovely and perfect. It's made for children, but all adults should watch it and have fun with it. Totoro is perfect for all ages. And this Blu-ray has an excelent quality; it's flawless, just perfect. Every Ghibli fan should have it. The only thing that I don't like very much is the price. The quality is really good, but I still think it's a bit more expenssive than it should.

Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime) (English, French & more languages for Subtitles & Audio available)AnimationJust perfect!Talking to everyone who watched this one: it's a perfect movie, isn't it? And talking to everyone who haven't watch this yet: watch it! As soon as possible! It'll change your life! Well, it changed mine. When I was a child, I watched Chihiro in the theatre, but I didn't understand the movie very well because I was really young, lol So, I wasn't a fan of Ghibli until Princess Mononoke. It changed my life, the way I watched animated movies, my taste for good animated movies/series and the way I look at characters in a movie. In Princess Mononoke, the bad guy is not completely bad, and the good guy is not completely good; the characters are human and complex, and I love that. Also, this Blu-ray is region free! Thanks God! It couldn't be more perfect. But it has portuguese audio; well, I think something that is already perfect can be even more perfect. I'm from Brazil and my language is portuguese. I'm the only one in my family who can speak english (my father is learning), but I really wanted to show this movie to my family. Because it has portuguese subtitles and audio, my mother could watch it, and she also fell in love with it. She's a huge fan of Ghibli, just like me, lol That's a movie every Ghibli fan must have. It's a really good one and the Blu-ray's quality is flawless. Just perfect.

Mononoke Hime SoundtrackJoe HisaishiBreathtakingMononoke Hime (aka Princess Mononoke) is a classic masterpiece. However so is its music. This soundtrack includes EVERY music masterpiece for your ears. It flows perfectly from start to finish. You can hear so many emotions all conveyed through the movie's themes. The booklet included only has a few pages written entirely in Japanese, but it has some great shots from the film and some images from the people working on the film's music that are wonderful to enjoy. I've owned this soundtrack for several years now, and honestly, if you haven't already picked up a copy I strongly encourage you to do so now. It's not something you want to miss out on.

The Borrower Arrietty (English subtitles, French, Korean and more languages available) [Blu-ray]AnimationOscar Worthy AgainThis is an absolutely beautiful movie, and a fantastic adaptation of the book. As well as the beauty of the animation the soundtrack that goes with the movie is also fantastic. If you can it is worth the premium to buy it on Blu-ray over DVD to fully appreciate this master piece from Ghibli. One final note to say that the subtitles are miss translated as "human beans" is wrong as that is what the Borrowers call humans in the books and its nice to see that they haven't "corrected" that aspect of the story.

The Borrower Arrietty (English subtitles, French, Korean and more languages available) [Blu-ray]AnimationThe Borrower Arrietty - BDError in English subtitles. Human beings are constantly referred to as "human beans". Great picture and sound!

Laputa, the Castle in the Sky with English, French, Chinese, German and Mandarin languages! [Blu-ray]AnimationOne of Miyazaki's Best!Great Bluray transfer. Great film. Minor quibbles: a few shakey frames and pity there's no English audio. Now we know where Cameron got his idea for the floating isles in Avatar.

Whisper Of The Heart (Mimi wo Sumaseba) - SoundtrackAnimation Soundtrackyou won't get it out of your earsIf you've seen the film, and I sure hope you've done so because it's one of the better Ghibli ever released, and certainly the more unjustly unrecognized, you'll want this soundtrack. The movie rely heavily on music, and here you'll get back all the feeling, the emotion, the atmosphere of the movie. The only drawback to this CD is that the opening version of "Country Road" by Olivia Newton-John isn't included, you'll have the "violin version" (when Shizuku sings) and the ending theme version (when Yoko Honna, seiyuu for Shizuku, sings), though. Definitely needed for any Ghibli fan truly worthy of the name.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa) Soundtrack - Harukana Chi eAnimation SoundtrackNausicaa of the valley of the windA beautiful soundtrack full of sweep and emotion. Nausicaa's theme particularly stands out and though the electronic side of the soundtrack is occasionally jarring compared to the orcherstral side the themes work well together and aptly evokes the mix of dystopia and hope that is Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Tenku no Shiro Laputa) Soundtrack - Hikoseki no NazoAnimation SoundtrackLaputa: Castle in the skyGreat soundtrack full of adventure and emotion. The opening theme and destruction theme are by far the best but the rest of the album more than lives uo to it. Even themes in the movie that didn't stand out to me as much as others really come into their own here, particularly Dola's theme and Pazu's rescue of Sheeta. Brilliant.

Teru no UtaAoi TeshimaGreat Single! When I first heard this song, I fell in love with it. After seeing the movie, I fell in love with it again. Teshima Aoi's voice really fits this kind of style. I really recommend this to anyone who likes the movie, or anyone else for that mater.

Ponyo on the CliffFujioka Fujimaki & Nozomi OhashiSo catchy! What an adorable song! It's very uplifting and catchy - it was stuck in my head for days! It reminds me a bit of Totoro's theme so I wonder if this film is trying to or will recreate the same essence? Either way, the song is very nice and will make you smile.

Howl's Moving Castle - SoundtrackOriginal Soundtrack (Joe Hisaishi)BeautifulThe first time I heard this soundtrack, it wasn't one of my favourites even though I tend to adore any that Joe Hisaishi churned out in the past. I'd have to say that even if some of the themes were a tad disparate, this has to be one of my most favourite soundtracks.
-
Porco Rosso (Kurenai no Buta)SoundtrackBeautiful soundtrackThis is one of my favourite Studio Ghibli soundtracks that was composed by Joe Hisaishi. It is a marvellous OST with a romantic lilt that corresponds so well to the style and feeling of the movie. :)

Castle in the skyAnimation (Joe Hisaishi)Impressive reworking of a classic score. When Disney acquired the U.S. rights to Hayao Miyazaki's LAPUTA (retitled CASTLE IN THE SKY in the U.S. since "laputa" is a nasty word in Spanish), they commissioned composer Joe Hisaishi to extend and rearrange his masterful score for a performance by a symphony orchestra. There were a number of naysayers who opposed this major revamp from the beginning and to this day some are still resentful. However, Miyazaki applauded the results, and there are those who echo his compliments, myself included. The compositions are identical to the original--the only difference here is that they are performed by a full orchestra; this provides for an arguably superior quality and gives the score a more "fresh" feel. There are even some new pieces that are equally beautiful and boisterously exciting, especially the tracks toward the end. All in all, this is a much underrated rearrangement that deserves a second chance; it not only makes the new dub worth watching, but on album it is especially enjoyable. And while the arguments over whether it does justice to the movie or not will last for eternity, what matters in the end is that this is still Joe Hisaishi's work through and through.
