I bought this Platinum-SHM-CD (UICY-4008) and SHM-CD (UICY-25010) to compare: Platinum-SHM-CD has more air between instruments, more natural heights (no Super Bit Mapping), but overall on same tonal level: Not warmer, not brighter or analytic, just more substance and most important: It's less compressed. SHM-CD is about 6 dB louder! If you have an underpowerd speaker-amp relation, you can't just make up the difference by turning the volume-knob of you amp more up. You might then prefer the normal SHM-Version, which is still very good, even better if your system is underpowered, but simply not the best! Platinum-SHM-CD rules for Audiophile (only)!--- Minimum 5 Stars
Dire Straits [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [Platinum SHM-CD] [Limited Release] Customer Reviews
Dire Straits
I have all vinyl discography of Dire Straits band and vinyl quality sound is very excellent but these Platinum shm cds exceed any expectation. Amazing sound quality in the mid-high frequencies and perfect balancing of the stero effect with final sound result simply fabulous.
Platinum SHM-CD is the most incredible CD "format", but you need to have a top-high-end (read:very expensive) audio setup to enjoy it. On average system, you may think normal SHM, or even SBM issue, are superior. Platinum SHM-CD sounds exactly like master-tape. "Dire Straits" sounds far better than "Love Over Gold" probably because the second was recorded DDD. Highly recommended!
I have 3 differents pressing LP and 3 differents CD of this album. The best is the classic SHM-CD. This Platinum is clearly and immediately under the SHM-CD which is more dynamic and rich. I am disapointed with this new format
