The Beatles Mono Box [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Customer Reviews
THE BEATLES
I`ve ordered the first pressing of this box (white OBI) on 09.09.09. through CDJAPAN for $370,00 only (using my points), including shipping rate. Someone`s said: think twice, these boxes should cost less in a year or two. And in the end the second japanese pressing of MONO BOX (black OBI) costs almost $500,00 including shipping. And boxes from USA and Europe go for $350-400 on Ebay. So I said to myself: you was right! First: there is no better beatles box edition on LP or CD than the Beatles In Mono boxset. The 090909 mono box is more attractive, informative and of high-quality sound than Blue Box`1978, The Beatles Mono Collection` 1982, MFSL Box` 1981, Beatles Box` 1988, EP and Singles Collections on LP`s and CD`s and others. Second: there`s no better Beatles In Mono edition then the first pressing japanese edition. Well-known fact that the Mono boxes from USA or Europe are much worse than japanese boxes, though they`re `made in Japan` too. Yes, they were designed in Japan, but printed and assembled in Europe and USA (I`m not sure about the CD`s itself though). That`s why we have japanese Beatles In Mono boxes of absolutely perfect quality and defective in most cases editions from USA and Europe: glue on cardboard, crumpled corners of covers, pure colour-quality of Beatles photos. Just compare fresh and realistic photo on Rubber Soul from japanese mono box to pure dark yellow-green sleeve from europian and american boxes. Br-r-r-rrrr.... Shock! And everybody knows that there are no better CD`s than japanese ones, made for home market. I love the japanese booklet of lyrics too (not included in non-japanese boxes). All the songs are presented both in english and japanese, so I can look through the Beatles lyrics before going to bed. Nothing is so important for any rock-group than clever social texts. You can know more about the Beatles from their lyrics then from other sources. And here it is - Beatles book of lyrics from japanese Beatles In Mono. What else? There are nice EMI-Japan promo plastic boxes for Beatles In Mono you can purchase from Ebay. But, sorry guys, for JAPANESE boxes only! `Cause japanese boxes are much bigger than non-japanese ones. So, my congratulations to all who didn`t think twice and have added to their home collections japanese first press Beatles In Mono boxes in nice well-designed first press OBI of white and pale-green!
The ultimate way to go is a Hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) Box Set. Each Hybrid SACD can have 5.1 channel surround sound tracks, stereo tracks, and redbook CD mono or stereo tracks at the same time. The redbook CD tracks on Hybrid SACDs can be played back on any ordinary CD player. Listen to The Beatles Love soundtrack remix on DVD-Audio 5.1 surround. A properly mixed SACD version would be even better.
Can I say , just read a artical from the guys that remarsted these recordings and they say that they have done them in 24 bit for later releases, ie, blu ray. They have not done 5.1 mix yet only stuff that was used for dvds and the Love album and show.
More for Trevor than the box. To answer your questions. Yes, the actual cds for both boxes are printed in Japan; no difference in the sleeves either. That said...as a collector you should be happy. The Japan box is a bit bigger and it does include an obi (outer box sleeve) and a lyrics text book. And it is probably more exclusive (forget the 10.000 for the world...all bogus!) Strange world...I have the European version and am thinking about buying the Japanese version as well haha. Most important: been playing this box like mad: awesome stuff!!!
It should be noted that the U.K. version of the mono box was also 'Made In Japan'. I have the Japan version, while a friend has the U.K. release, and the discs in both boxes indicate that manufacturing was done in Japan. Given the wide discepancy in price between the two versions, I feel as if I've been robbed to some extent. This information has not disclosed anywhere, at least not for me to see. I assume that this means that the discs packaged with each set are sonically identical?
The way to go would indeed be Blu-Spec or SHM. I have ordered this box and will not be at all happy if it is later released in either of these formats!
Why they they do not release this wonderful box directly on SHM-CD or Blu-spec CD ? May be they will do it after like they did for the Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stone Box. Need to wait or not ? I don't know but the difference is very important because the SHM-CD for example is much better than the normal format.Someone can repsond me ? Thank you very much
I think the Japanese release will be different then the world wide release, mainly cause these will contain obi. Buying these from Japan is the way to go as they do the best job with the mini lp replicas. The price though, kind of steep but oh so worth it.
