Leaves a lasting impression... 5

Dir en grey made the interesting move by starting with the B-side Machiavellism which is a really catchy and up-beat song. I love how Kyo gets inspiration from this kind of music to write lyrics about self mutilation. Then follows the actual single, SAKU which further introduced the great sound they would've achieved on all of Withering to death. The song is quite short, but leaves a lasting impression on a first listen. Going from the hysteric start to the wonderful part where Kyo sings his heart out is a great ride! Last, but definitely not least, they included their awesome live opening G.D.S. which is the absolute greatest way a live show can open. I can never get enough of that track as I listen to it constantly which send chills down my spine when I think of the awesome DVDs they have with it as well as when I saw them myself live. Included is a live version of SYOKUBENI and I definitely think this song is better when performed live. Even though it's a bit short, I love Kyo's acapella part, such unbelievable power they put down in this song every time when played live. Yet another great single release!

great and brutal... 5

this single is a great master piece from Dir en Grey. I love "saku", "Machiavelism" is good too. And the B-side "G.D.S." is so gorgeous (fantastic intro theme in live shows).

New Style 4

Dir en grey's new style is very rough and violent. I can't listen to their music the hole day because I'll get mad but when I'm in the right mood for such music it is very nice.

Great Single 5

This is definitely one of Dir en grey's best singles. First, you have Machiavellism, whichm sounds like a forgotten song from VULGAR and is one of, if not the, catchiest songs that Dir en grey has ever produced. It seems odd, though, that the band would choose such a catchy tune for lyrics that are about suicide (the chorus is full of the line, "HURRY UP! HURRY UP! WRIST-CUT SHOW!") And then we have -saku-. This is one of THE hardest songs that Dir en grey has ever done. Kyo does a great job going from screeching to singing the lyrics, which, at one point, seem repetitive, but at the same time deep and meaningful. And finally, thank God, GDS. I'm so glad that there's an in-studio version of this song. They open most of their shows with this, so when you're getting ready to go to one of their shows but have forgotten exactly when to chant, "KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL," this will help you remember. Also included after GDS is a live version of SYOKUBENI. Not my favorite Dir en grey song, but it's a good little treat. All in all, I recommend the SAKU single for anybody wanting to get a rougher taste of Dir en grey.
