A very dark, deep album, there's not much else like Velvet Eden's "Street of Alice". Dada's voice may not please the casual listener, but after a few run-throughs of a song or two, you get used to and enjoy it. The lyrics tell a bizzare story that is nevertheless enchanting, seamlessly fused with layered, haunting compositions. Highlights include 'Sad Mask,' 'Girl Fiend,' 'Maze,' and 'la fin' (although I don't think the reworked version of 'la fin' is as good as the one on the demotape/vhs). Overall, very excellent and unique, and while the CD is not for everyone, it's worth listening to.
Street of ALICE Customer Reviews
VELVET EDEN
In Street Of Alice, I see all the feelings of Dada, made into songs, not appoints Kalm, since the CD was released after the departure of this. Street Of Alice is very special to me, the first song I hear Velvet Eden was that, at that time Velvet Eden became one of my favorites and have it now seems like a dream come true...
This album is on of the best I've heard! The music is very different from any other music, and Dada's voice is so nice=)
This album is even better than the first one! It made me a total addict to Velvet Eden! This is an album I know I'll keep listening to, because it's perfect and can turn a bad day into a who-cares-after-all? day. Highly recommended if you're fed up with everything, brings sheer (dark) beauty into your life! I am sad that Kalm and Dada parted but I am ever so thankful that they gave us those two memorable albums. I wish to convey to each of them my love, admiration and gratitude.
Street of ALICE is undoubtedly one of my favourite CD's in my Japanese music collection. The lyrics are quite interesting, and dark, but as I don't speak Japanese myself, I rely on translations to get the idea of what is being sung. I would recommend Velvet Eden to anyone, whether or not they normally listen to that style of music. It's really amazing what they can do, musically speaking, with so few members.
This is an excellent album. Kalm's music and Dada's lyrics combine perfectly to create an amazingly dark and creepy atmosphere that completely sucks the listener in. To me this is the best Velvet Eden album and also a great introduction to the band.
This is a great album and the best of this band in my opinion. All Velvet Eden fans should definitely buy this. :3
