Farewell to solo career.. back to DAI. 4

It has been three years since this album, which marked Tomiko's first solo release. Do As Infinity are back together now. Congratulation to fans =D!! This album contains a different style not usual from Tomiko, but she absolutely pulled it off. Although the release is considered old it's still worth listening to again and again In fact it grows on you each time you hear and never gets boring. I hope you can purchase this album and enjoy it as much as I did =) Also don't miss out on other releases by Tomiko and Do As Infinity!!

Farewell 4

1st solo album from Tomiko-san, but her voice is still as great as during her DAI days. Although the album is filled with quite a few new genres by her (jazz is one of them), it's quite a "refreshing" change, though I hope to see a few of her DAI days' kinda of songs

This disc gets better over time 4

I bought this disk because I was a DAI fan and really love Tomiko. I had read that it was quite a different sound, probably due to the many jazz influenced songs. But each song is great on its own and there is a flow from one to the next that reminds me of a movie sound track where each part supports a developing storyline. My first listen, I was rather indifferent, but now I play it start to finish and it is still in my favorites pile. The video for Farewell is a good match for the song, but the one for Hold Me... suffers from the musicians improvising over large portions of the soundtrack, which would be forgivable if it wasn't supposed to emulate a live performance. Fortunately, Tomiko holds your attention so these minor grievances can be overlooked.

Great solo debut! 5

This is a great solo album from Tomiko Van. I for one, along with other fans, expected the same type of music she had when she was with Do As Infinity. This was not the case. There are similar songs, but all in all, this album has a softer touch, with some good jazz mixed in. It really shows that she has the range to sing on any type of song, whether it's rock and upbeat, or a nice soft jazz tune. Any fan of Do As Infinity will appreciate this album, because her voice is as good as ever. She doesn't miss a beat!

Radical change from Tomiko... 4

A stark departure from what listeners assuming what they will expect out of Tomiko Van: the Do As Infinity sound. Be warned, only a couple of cuts on her debut solo release bears traces of her last musical journey as DAI. This is a radical move that Tomiko is heading, a sign to mark that she is ready to tackle material beyond rock n' roll. It will take a few more listens to adjust to her new material, but in essence, her vocal work is the centre piece that makes her instantly recognisable.

Wow....... 5

Van Tomiko's voice in this album was great. My favorite song was complacence. Farewell instrumental was good but it didn't really catch my interest as much as the other songs.

Good CD, but... 4

It's actually a very good CD when you're just relaxing. The entire CD is filled with music of various pace but it's a bit on the slow side. While slow isn't bad, I'd much prefer her more upbeat stuff. Sometimes one or two songs remind me of music from the Do As Infinity days. Overall a good mix.

farwell by van tomiko 5

The debut cd from Van Tomiko is actually very good! is it Do As Infinity? - No, of course not. If you're buying the CD expecting DAI, u maybe be pleasantly surprised. 'Farwell' is a completely laid back, mellow album, from start to finish. It's one of those rare CDs that you are able to play from start to finish with out skipping a song. The sound of the 'Farewel' is definitely all van. Her vocals blend perfectly with the soft, jazz, R&B, and j-pop inspired arrangements. Stand out tracks are: 'farewell', 'essence', 'horoscope', holy planet', 'before sunset' and hold me'. This is a must have for anyone who enjoyed her work with DAI.
