An album with 3 excellent songslike A song for XX, A powder snow and For my Dear.... This album is pure because Ayu was young. The voice too. A must. A song for xx will be for me a Ayu's best song in hers carrer. Love album.

The autobiography of an adolescent. 5

For a debut album, A Song for XX is very solid. It is also unlike any of her other albums. For the most part this album is an autobiography of her life up until that point in time. The lyrics of each song touch upon many things, but most of all they reflect the emotions of a young girl finding her way in life. This album offers up songs of all varieties, from cheerful and uplifting songs like SIGNAL and Present to sorrowful and despairing songs like POWDER SNOW. I'm sure the title track holds a special place in many Ayu fan's hearts; I know it certainly holds one in my heart. The lyrics are very heartfelt, emotional, and something I think only Ayu could have written. They are honest emotions that really give the listener a sense of Ayu's despair and sadness. It just affirms some of the unfortunate events she experienced early in life such as her father abandoning her or her inability to trust adults. All of the album tracks are worth mentioning because her lyrics and her way of singing honestly make them praise-worthy. I particularly enjoyed POWDER SNOW for its poetic lyrics and powerful aura of sad emotions. Single tracks worth mentioning are YOU and Depend on you; the former for its excellent way of depicting the passage of the seasons and the latter for being such a classic Ayu pop song. Out of her first 5 singles released, I think I loved these two the most. Overall, this album is very unique. One does not get something out of it just by listening. I know I did not by doing this. I recommend that people actually try to understand what this young girl is writing about. They are pure and honest emotions. Ask yourself if an average 19 year old could write such things. It is quite mind blowing to say the least. As with one of her other albums, this one stands by itself. I would not recommend this for someone who's never heard her before; more than likely it'll turn off people right away. With all things considered, it's a classic worth owning for Ayu fans though.

Best Of The Old Part Two 5

Aside from Her album Duty, this is the best album from the beginning of Ayu's career. In my opinion it's better than Loveppears and shows off a sadder, more sentimental side of Ayu that can't be found in any other album. The songs are beautifully written and very personal. My favorites would have to be For My Dear, Depend On You, Powder Snow, Friend, Poker Face and of course the title track A Song For. But there isn't a single song on here that I can't listen to over and over again. It's one of those albums where I've never even had to acknowladge the skip button's existance. If your a fan of Ayumi Hamasaki, old or new, then don't waste any time picking up this album.

First album, Great album 4

I love this album from Ayu, it may be her first but almost all of the songs are great! The only thing you can get a little annoyed at is her voice at some places when it gets squeekish xDD Everything else about it are positive thoughts :)

A brilliant debut! 4

I think no one could imagine how successful Ayumi would become after making this album. Here's where it all started with the singer who would become the J-Pop Queen! This album is really sweet, filled with lots and lots of cute songs. The title track is a great opening number and other favorites are poker face, YOU, As If..., POWDER SNOW, Depend on you and For My Dear. It's fun to hear Ayumi's voice so young cause it sounds too cute. While this is nowhere near what would become of Ayumi and her music later on, it's a brilliant debut that every fan must check out just to see what it was that made her stick out among all other pop singers in Japan.

Hmm.... 4

I remember listening to this album for the first time, I was still green into the JPOP scene. I didn't like it at first but most of the songs eventually grew on me, especially Signal. Oh, and I want to make a correction for my rating for her second album "LOVEppears" as well. I don't remember what I rated it [probably ***] but I really do love it where I give it [**********]!

A classic that is worth buying! 5

this being her first album, the vocals arent the best, but they are beautifull non the less. this album touches me and it is a work of art. Her lyrics are so insightfull, they would surely make an imppression on ur heart. all together its totaly worth buying! and the ever lasting classic song that has been on her BEST albums and countless remix albums a long with performed at concerts one after another, "A song for XX"! That song alone is enough to buy it, so please consider!
