Majo no takkyubin(Kiki's Delivery Service) (1989)

One of Maestro Miyazaki's most internationally beloved films is based on the children's book by Eiko Kadono. Animation or not, it's one of the best movies ever made that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults alike. Since it's a 100% Miyazaki film in every respect, it's surprising to know that he was only intending to produce the film at first (partly because it's not based on his own story) however, after some considerations he decided to write the screenplay and direct it himself... And aren't we glad that he did!?
