Godzilla vs King Ghidrah [Blu-ray]Sci-Fi Live ActionThe King in high def
My first Godzilla film on Blu-ray and I hve to say I'm impressed. The image is crisp (if not crystal clear like more recent films on Blu-ray) and pretty good for a film nearly twenty years old and filmed comparatively cheeply when compared to blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Star Trek. It's a definite improvement over my dvd copy and boasts great sound that impresess even without a surround sound system. The disk comes with extras (I presume the same as those found on the Japanese dvd) which are fairly impressive. It comes with behind the scenes segments covering the SFX shooting but lacks a documentry covering the whole production like that found on other Toho Godzilla dvds, which is a bit of a shame. But the glimpses offered coupled with a raft of trailers a commentary (which to the Japanese challenged such as myself isn't much good) and a location guide which, despite the high pitched voice-over is quite interesting, covering Godzilla films filmed in and around Shinjuku. Overall this is a decent package, with a quality transfer and extras. My only complaints are the usual lack of subtitles (why Toho release these films without english subtitles when there are a raft of english speaking fans who want these films in high def and are unable to purchase them anywhere else is beyond me)and the usual high price of Japanese Blu-rays. So if this film is one of your favourites and you have the cash to spare I recommend picking it up.

Patlabor 2 the Movie P2Kenji KawaiAwesome!!!
Simply put this is one of the best scores to a film ever. Kenji Kawai is on top form and is yet to better himself in my opinion. Full of beauty, emotion and tension this should be in everyones collection. I can't sing it's praises enough, highly recommended!!!

Gamera 3 Original SoundtrackSoundtrackGamera 3
A brilliant soundtrack and a fitting conclusion to the series. More ominous, dark and suspensful than previous soundtracks in the Gamera series adding depth and emotion to the flying turtle and his foes. Really atmospheric but not afraid to go big, broad and epic for the climax. Highly recomended for fans of Gamera and Kow Otani.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa) Soundtrack - Harukana Chi eAnimation SoundtrackNausicaa of the valley of the wind
A beautiful soundtrack full of sweep and emotion. Nausicaa's theme particularly stands out and though the electronic side of the soundtrack is occasionally jarring compared to the orcherstral side the themes work well together and aptly evokes the mix of dystopia and hope that is Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Tenku no Shiro Laputa) Soundtrack - Hikoseki no NazoAnimation SoundtrackLaputa: Castle in the sky
Great soundtrack full of adventure and emotion. The opening theme and destruction theme are by far the best but the rest of the album more than lives uo to it. Even themes in the movie that didn't stand out to me as much as others really come into their own here, particularly Dola's theme and Pazu's rescue of Sheeta. Brilliant.

Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidra Daikaiju SoukougekiOriginal SoundtrackDaikaiju soukougeki
An impresive and comprehensive soundtrack, effectively creating a new sound for Godzilla in the new Millenium. Rather than trying to mimic the great Akira Ifukube, Kow Otani forges his own path, creating a unique sound while somehow retaining an emotional link to the classic Ifukube sound. Though more electronic than his Gamera scores, GMK retains a great orchestral sound, the electronic elements of the score helping to give it a flavor all its own. Recomended.
