Ethereal Piece of Life
As this was Sayuri's debut album, I would say she outdid herself, but what it really comes down to is the fact that she put her heart into this unimaginably surreal album.
Let's start with the lyrical composition. Each song invoked intricate feelings of life's ups and downs. There wasn't a single song that felt like it was missing something or that it was rushed. In a world with a market that is over saturated with pop, the lyrics alone were enough to make this album stand out from the rest. It feels like Sayuri didn't want to be another typical pop singer, but rather someone who wanted to take us on a journey of all the things we have to experience in our lives. To put it bluntly, Sayuri was essentially expressing her thoughts, feelings, and even her struggles through her music, while at the same time connecting her life with ours. A good example is the song "birthday song" in which she sings about how she hopes everyone can feel loved.
Sayuri's voice on the other hand is absolutely celestial. There were times during my play through of the album where I could feel Sayuri's voice caressing my heart. Her voice is so unique that it's difficult to describe, but it essentially carries feelings of youth, and maturity.
As for the music itself, it's tearfully and heart warmingly captivating to say the least. None of the songs are overbearing to listen to, and there's lots of warm, and beautifully placed details with the additional guitar riffs and piano melodies that help carry the essence of the songs further. Just listening to Sayuri's voice alone would be more than satisfying.
This album was written and composed in a way that was meant to touch our hearts, while also being able to touch Sayuri's heart. She isn't just singing from her perspective, but from our perspective, which is what makes this album so easy to resonate with.
At this point I think it's quite obvious what I think of this album. It's not only a masterpiece, but a spine tingling piece of life. Sayuri is a beautiful person inside and out, and I hope to meet her one day to personally thank her for her work.
